New Entrants to Farming – Get Your Calves off to a Great Start (Wigtownshire)
Excellent calf rearing skills are essential to rear quality replacement heifers for the dairy herd. This practical workshop will use “Calf Signals”, part of the “Cow Signals” programme to teach you the skills you need to be a successful calf rearer. We will also look at colostrum management, the importance of housing and hear from the McWilliams on how they manage their calf rearing facility and how their involvement in a youngstock group, run by the local vet practice has helped them improve calf performance.
Lunch will be provided so booking is essential.
As this is an on farm event please remember to wear warm clothing and footwear suitable for disinfection.
