Sheep Wintering Options. Join us on Thursday 27th February, 11am at Shalloch Park farm, Girvan by kind permission of Francis McMillan to look at the strategy employed here for housing sheep during winter and wintering on crop to reduce concentrate costs and provide a rest period for grass during the winter. Ewes with lambs at foot require high quality and plentiful grass to support milk production, Spring grass can offer the combination of metabolisable energy, protein and digestibility required to maximise intake. We will discuss what options can be adopted during winter to enable grass covers to be built up for that post lambing period. Lunch will be provided at the Woodland Bay Hotel.
As this is an on farm meeting please remember to wear warm/clean clothing and footwear suitable for disinfection.
