Improving Your Flock Performance (Arran)
Increasingly sheep farming is coming under greater and greater pressure, and the oncoming implications of Brexit, regardless of the outcome puts huge importance on efficiency, performance and management. At this meeting health and nutrition topics will be covered to help you improve your flock performance.
Heather Stevenson from SRUCVeterinary Services, and Matt Colston from Elanco will cover fluke and worms in sheep and when it is best time to treat, clinical symptoms, diagnosis, and treatments available. The importance of rotating flukicides and wormers with different active ingredients to avoid resistance will be highlighted and when is best to use certain active ingredients to target the worms/fluke in their life cycle. Foot-rot control and foot health (e.g. CODD and scald) will also be covered including prevention and treatment.
Poppy Frater, SAC Consulting Sheep and Grassland Specialist will discuss ewe nutrition including flushing pre-tupping and feeding the in-lamb ewe.
Alexander Pirie and Kirstyn Blackwood, SAC Consulting Ayr, will look at body condition score targets and advice on how to achieve these targets.
