We will tour Bomakelloch Farm which is farmed by Billy & Phil Stewart. They will inform us of their current management systems on the farm and discuss their future plans for their business.
Grassland management is key to improving the financial output from any cattle and sheep enterprises. Utilising available grassland as efficiently as possible reduces the reliance on purchased concentrates.
This meeting will look at ways to improve grassland utilisation to get the best out of the grassland on your holding. SAC Consulting specialist, Poppy Frater, will be covering all elements of good grassland management and soil health.
As part of the meeting we will look in particular at:
- Soil health on your farm (simple tests and soil analysis)
- Grassland ID
- Reseeding and managing young grass
- Silage/hay production (cutting time and variety choice)
- Measuring grass (how to use a sward stick or plate meter)
The meeting is FREE and OPEN TO EVERYONE. New entrants and young farmers will benefit greatly from attending this meeting, bringing home many tips and tricks which can be put into place immediately on any farm.
