New Entrants to Farming – Winter Planning (Lanark)

Cattle at a feed railThe first Lanarkshire FAS New Entrants to Farming meeting of the 2018/19 series will be held on Monday 1st October, 7.30pm at Radstone Hotel, Larkhall, ML9 2TZ.

The poor spring and dry summer of 2018 has had a big impact on grass growth in the season, as well as cereal crops throughout the country which sees feed and straw costs set to rise. At this meeting we will cover various topics to help plan for the winter ahead including alternative bedding materials and forage budgeting. We will run a practical session on calculating forage stocks. Everyone is welcome to bring along their own farm silage analysis to work out what stock you do actually have on farm.

We will also discuss the benefits of forage crops and alternative wintering for sheep.

This is a free event open to all new entrants and young farmers with refreshments provided. For more information or to book your space please contact Hazel Laughton (Tel: 01555 662562, Mob: 07979 546098  Email: Alternatively you can book online using the form below.
